Thanks for the kind comments. The results.
Putting on the race has been an interesting undertaking. From "efforting" to get the park involved, the local mountain bike community, and designing a course that was challenging and long.
I feared that the course was a little "dangerous" and it showed with all the falls by the hardcore trail runners.
Hopefully, next year we can return...
The inspriration (and the name) comes from long time trail runner Gary Hemmelgarn.

New for the 2009 season.
This is a 15.5 mile lolly-pop.
Starting at the campground you'll travel through the tamest 3.1 miles in the course to the first aid station at Ward Rd. Be sure to stock up on liquid, 5+ miles to next aid!
From there you'll travel along the lake for 2.7 miles. This section is the most scenic with awe-inspiring views of the lake. Also the course gets much more difficult with the hills.
The turn-around loop is 3.4 miles with the 2nd aid station perched at the top. After the loop, your heading back on the 2.7 mile stretch at the Ward Rd aid station and 3.1 to the finish!
The course is the most technical of all the races and will be a real challenge.
Parking is at: 9000 Center Rd, New Burlington, Ohio
Best Times I know of: 2:12:25
Trail scale: 9.5 of 10

From the course map it looks like we cross water. Do we run thru the water or do we stay dry?
Anonymous,
The map is deceptive, most of the year all the streams are 'jumpable'. In mid summer it's just a trickle.
On the map it looks very wide... it's not. However, I will try to rig a rock bridge if it's too wide. If we get alot of rain... all bets are off.
9331 feet of gain and loss? I don't believe it.
Keegan,
I have not personally verified the elevation gain/losses, however, I retrieved the info from the CORA MTB folks Garmin data.
I had questioned it a few weeks ago... and removed the elevation from the description but forgot the map. (corrected now)
I spent the last hour pouring over a terrain map with Excel. Looks like it should be around 1600' to 1800' of elevation change. (Approx 800' to 900' of total climb)
You gotta love a challenge! Thanks for a great race.

Hi guys -
Thanks again for a terrific venue.

Wow. I don't know what to say. For my 1st Trail race, I might have picked the wrong one to begin with.
I thought I broke some toes, running into all those tree roots.
Finished bloody, dirt-covered, exhausted.
What a trail!
Great day for a trail race and a beautiful course. A little bit of everything, but well marked and supported. Thanks for a great race and I hope we keep this on the Dirt Dawg schedule for 2010.
